One of the key elements of ethical fashion, is the love and support of local creative systems that engages a new type of pride for one’s town in which they live. Oaklandish, Oakland’s local love and civic pride apparel brand, re-introduces this “pride of place” in their latest project: therethere.
therethere pays homage to the landmarks, the neighborhoods, and the topography that we love most about the places in which we live.
Because “everyone calls someplace home”, therethere provides apparel, totes, and stickers based on places like Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and Sacramento; to Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and DC.
Partnering with local artists and designers of these cities, therethere strives to provide expressions of the local everyday from each city’s perspective. therethere donates a portion of proceeds to nonprofit organizations doing notable work in each city. They are also a certified B Corporation– meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
For the launch of San Francisco designs (our “hometown”), therethere will donate 10% of the proceeds from their Topo SF design (a rad map of our 7×7) to ODC, a San Francisco contemporary arts institution.
